Although I think that it makes sense to take steps just in case, I've come to think that scientists don't actually understand climate change. It's just too complicated and there are too many variables involved. They cannot possibly design models which account for all the variables on the entire planet earth. We don't even come close to understanding all the chemical and physical phenomena which are involved. On a global scale, it's simply not possible to establish causation with complete certainty; scientists can only establish a correlation... But it's not difficult to find a correlation when it comes to such slow gradual change; CO2 and global temperature either move together or they don't, the probability of a spurious correlation is 50%. At the end of the day, believing in climate change is faith so it's not fair to call skeptics idiots for not having faith. Broad consensus doesn't necessarily equate truth. There are plenty of ideas which have extremely widespread consensus which are incorrect. Taking steps to prevent the possibility of climate change makes sense, but it's essentially risk management and we can't attack people for having alternative opinions.
