I lived in Russia for almost 6 months and I can relate to the point about the low cost of living and the dirt cheap internet. I could not believe how cheap the internet was.
If you look at Russia's GDP per capita PPP versus nominal, the difference is more than 2.5 times! That is insane and one of the highest differences in the world - You can really feel this on the ground if you're earning foreign-sourced income. It feels like your money buys more than twice as much as it would in any western country.
The feeling is basically the opposite of what you get when you visit Switzerland where it feels that your money buys half as much as it would in other western countries.
