Interesting, I was about to say something similar. Agreed, most of the efficiency gains are not related to implementation itself. Moreover, current software development tools and methodologies seem inefficient compared to 5 years ago. Seems to have taken a step back. So it's weird to read articles discussing efficiency as if any tech company actually really cares about it. They all say they care but look at the awful tools, bureaucracy, overpriced infrastructure they're using and you know it's not true. Even the HR departments don't care about hiring top talent anymore. They're fooling themselves. There are many software stacks out there that are better than the ones that are pushed onto us but we never hear about them.

Reality is nobody is interested in efficiency currently (feels like we stopped innovating in software dev efficiency a few years ago). I hope this changes.
