My theory about the current situation is that the global financial system has been extremely effective at rewarding the most aggressive, reckless, dishonest people over the past few generations... These kinds of people are usually the ones who would spearhead a revolution but they have been treated so well by the current system that they have no interest to see it reformed.
Most of the newer generations are hooked on video games, virtual worlds and/or drugs so they have no interest in what's going on in the real world... These people have been the most harmed by the system but they aren't going to revolt, they just blame themselves for all their problems so they don't even have the will to do anything about it.
IMO everything will keep getting crazier until the real economy grinds to a halt (which will probably happen sooner than expected). Only when things become dire for the upper classes, there will be a transition to a new system. In the meantime, I think we will see increases in crime, corruption, bureaucracy, labor strikes, etc...
