Sometimes I feel like some members of the elite behave in such greedy and selfish ways, it must not be natural. The relentlessness of their actions makes me think that they must do it out of principle. It must be some kind of twisted Ayn Rand moral code.
They must think that selfishness is the cause of efficiency in capitalism rather than merely an unfortunate byproduct of it. It’s an inversion of cause and effect. Efficiency makes room for selfishness, but selfishness does not yield efficiency.
We need to drop the Ayn Rand ideology that selfishness is somehow moral. It’s about getting the right balance; always has been and always will be. Extemist ideologies are rarely good for anyone.
