The likely problem is that the monetary system is distorting markets. It’s blindingly obvious that there is a shortage of blue collar workers in the west... But then why doesn’t the free market work its magic and make it highly lucrative to work a blue collar job? Surely increasing salaries would attract people to do the jobs that society needs doing! What’s going on there? Why aren’t the salaries increasing to correct the imbalance? Why is Capitalism not working anymore?
Maybe it’s because the monetary system distorts the markets. Why would anyone work a hard, socially useful job when they can earn more money working a somewhat easier, useless job and get paid straight out of a big bank’s money printer?
The system gives us a choice; work for the money printers doing useless stuff and get paid well or do useful stuff and get paid less. For those of us who both want to contribute and to get paid a decent salary, there is nowhere to go...
Many of us have become useless from working highly complex but unnecessary jobs for a decade and the idea of re-skilling to a less technical job terrifies us... Especially if we have to take a pay cut in the process.
