The problem is the design of the global financial system which is highly regulated and where large corporations are essentially subsidized by government. This system artificially created a race to monopolize everything. Now that we've approached peak monopolization, there are no opportunities remaining for newcomers. They cannot succeed no matter what they do. Smart young people understand this and that's why many stopped trying. That's why many people are bitter. Also, not many people can afford to have multiple children, those who can may be corporate employees like executives, investors, financiers, creative accountants, strategists or other highly paid insiders and it's not exactly their firm grasp of ethics which got them into this position... Most financial opportunities which remain available today are unethical. There is a Darwinian process at play which selects against ethics.
We stopped punishing certain unethical conduct and even started rewarding it. That's why we have this problem.
